  • Paul Kornman

    Paul T. Kornman serves as a statistical and psychometric consultant with the Cognition, Brain Imaging, Behaviour Research, and Allelic Variation (COBBRA) Lab, supporting the development and validation of a new diagnostic screener, titled the "Cannabis Assessment Reliability and Validity Evaluation (CARVE) Tool," for cannabis use disorder and associated psychiatric risk. He is currently a Ph.D. student in Quantitative Psychology at the University of Manitoba under Dr. Johnson Li, where he also works as a project manager and graduate research associate. His role with our lab includes designing multistage analytic plans, applying a variety of advanced statistical analyses (including exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses, structural equation modelling, item response theory modelling, and differential item functioning) to evaluate reliability, validity, and measurement bias across diverse patient groups for our new CUD screener. He also collaborates with clinical and research staff at his home institution, the Laboratory in Quantitative and Applied Statistics, to align methodological decisions with our lab’s translational goals and to mentor trainees for our ongoing clinical and community-based studies. Much of his research involves reducing endogeneity, dissecting complex heterogeneity, and enhancing replicability using a variety of statistical methods, including machine learning and artificial intelligence algorithms, multi-level and mixed-effect modelling, and psychometric methods in evaluation and assessment. Currently, he has secured a collaboration with the Neurobehavioral Dynamics Lab at Auburn University, led by Dr. John Michael Falligant, in which he will facilitate a new phase of testing the CARVE tool.
