Transition Learning Career Academy

This is a program that is designed to prepare high school students for a future in the workplace by offering, in conjunction with a functional comprehensive curriculum that meets all CT standards, experiences in a real life work environment.

These experiences will be designed around the students individual needs as identified in their transitional goals.

The objective is to give students an alternative to a more traditional academic experience to enable them to graduate with their graduating class i.e. within 4 years. The curriculum will be taught by utilizing a project based learning method; a dynamic approach to teaching in which students explore real-world problems and challenges, simultaneously developing cross-curriculum skills while working in small collaborative groups with focus on hands-on activities.

In grades 9-10, students will start their career exploration through job shadowing, etc. They will be assessed for work readiness as they move through the continuum of work related experiences and participate in elective courses related to work readiness.

In grades 11-12 (16 years and up), students will continue to work towards academic credits while spending time in work/volunteer placements. The goal is for the students to start building a resume that will make them desirable for employment upon graduation from the program.

As students prepare for a future in the workplace they need experiences in a real life environment. These experiences will be designed around their individual needs.
