The Webb School in the Valley offers a small community based environment where your student can become comfortable with a less restrictive milieu in a safe setting.
In conjunction with offering our regular approved elementary therapeutic day school program, the The Webb School in the Valley, Avon, focuses on providing Consultation Services in your district to help students be successful in their public school environment.
At times students need a more comprehensive assessment where a Diagnostic Placement may be needed. The Avon site offers short term diagnostic placements to further help you understand and program for your student’s difficulties and needs. As a student moves along the continuum of the least restrictive environment, we offer a Bridge Program/Consultation. This program is designed to move a student closer to their home school.
Together with your staff we help design and implement an achievable re-integration plan.
In-District Student Diagnostic Consultation
The Webb Schools are able to provide a practical, diagnostic service to students and their school districts while the students attend their local school. If a Planning and Placement Team (PPT) determines that a diagnostic consultation would be helpful to determine appropriate programming for a particular student, an experienced educational/behavioral consultant is assigned. The consultant, with district personnel and the student’s family, will assess the need for formal and informal assessments, facilitate the administration of those assessments and provide direct consultation to those working with the student. The goal is to support an educational plan which meets the needs of the student so that the student is able to benefit from his/her educational program.
Webb School Diagnostic Placement
Students who are referred to the Webb Schools for diagnostic placement attend the Webb Schools for approximately 6-12 weeks. Formal assessments and observations within the school community help the diagnostic team to provide the referring school with an integrated picture of the student and offer practical solutions to the current problems. These solutions are tailored to fit the student’s needs and follow all state guidelines. The first priority is to return the student to his/her public school environment after the 6-12 week period. At times, the PPT may need extra time to put program components in place or decide for a continuation in a more restrictive environment. Any final decision regarding placement occurs through the PPT process. Collaboration with the direct district staff and the family and bi-weekly update meetings support the diagnostic action plan.
Bridge Consultation/Program
Students who are deemed appropriate for return to their public school environment are carefully reviewed and plans for return are developed together with the receiving public school district. Initial meeting with clinical and/or educational Webb School staff to determine scope of consultation.
