Center for Translational Neuroscience of Alcoholism – Project 5

This study examines participants with and without a history of alcoholism in their families.

This is done by completing clinical interviews concerning your medical and psychiatric history in addition to fMRI and computerized tasks

Researchers on this team:

Who can participate?

Participants must:

  • Be between the ages of 18 – 40
  • Be right handed
  • Have relatives who have alcoholism or a history of alcoholism

What will I do if I participate?

  • The research study consists of three separate days: one 8 hour screening visit as well as two research visits each lasting approximately 7 hours.
  • Each research visit you will be administered either a placebo or 200 mg dose of Mavoglurant. Mavoglurant has been used in previous research studies, but is the same type of drug expected to play a role in alcoholism therapy.
  • Any and all information collected about you will be kept confidential. Only the research staff will have access to this information.

What do I get out of this?

Participants will be compensated at a rate of $20 per hour for the time it takes to complete the study, plus given the opportunity to win more money on computerized tasks.
