TOPS Extended Day Treatment for Children & Adolescents

The Institute of Living Teaching Our Positive Side (TOPS) Program offers therapeutic Extended Day Treatment services to children and adolescents (age 11-14) and their parents/guardians who resides within the Greater Hartford area. 

TOPS is a community-based group treatment program for children and adolescents struggling with environmental stressors, poor social skills, trauma, challenges with family, behavioral difficulties at home, school, or the community, ADHD, depression, and anxiety.

The TOPS program is six months long and meets five days a week for three hours a day including school and summer vacations. Our goal is to empower both children and their families, promoting overall well-being and growth in a clinical environment.

Eligibility

  • Ages of 11 and 14 years old.
  • Husky A insurance.
  • Reside within the Greater Hartford Area.
  • Must have a diagnosable behavior health condition which impedes functioning in school, home, and/or community.
  • Best suited for those who are willing to engage in group processing with peers

Schedule

The program operates three hours a day from 1PM - 4 PM – Monday through Friday – except for major holidays: New Year's Day, MLK Jr. Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.

Our summer and school vacation hours are 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM.

Medical Services

The program has a child psychiatrist to prescribe medication if needed. Laboratory resources are also available.

Transportation

Transportation is provided by the program for those living in Hartford, Newington, Wethersfield, and Rocky Hill. Children ages 12 and older with Husky A living in those towns or elsewhere are also eligible for Medical Cab transportation provided by insurance. Otherwise, transportation is the responsibility of the parent/ guardian.
